Update on Lynnda - Lynnda is doing well.  She had the 3rd treatment in this series today and
everything went well.  This series of chemo treatments does not bother her as much as the chemo she was taking during the spring.

Lynnda had her chemo today and it went well.

I will be staying down here for about three weeks--until she recovers from
the surgery she had on Monday.  She cant raise her arms above her head, bend
over or lift anything for about three weeks.  Looks like I will be needed
down here for at least that long.

Love,

Betty Wilson   bwil@ultravision.net

Tuesday August 30, 2005

Lynnda is doing fine, but she is not supposed to reach above her head, lift
anything, or bend over for three weeks.  I imagine I will be down here for
three weeks at least.
Harold works for State Farm so he is going to be a bit busier.  During
Lynnda's earlier bout with chemo, Harold could take care of almost
everything from the house, but Katrina might change things.  He expects to
be at the office all day today.
I am sure he will be able arrange things so that he can go with Lynnda to
the hospital for her treatment tomorrow.  He is her "rock."
Love, Betty Wilson,

Lynnda is having surgery tomorrow morning to insert a tube in her tummy
through which the doctor can give her gene therapy.  She will also be
getting a mediport so the same chemo that she took in the spring could be
started again.   Keep the prayers going.
Love, Betty Wilson

EISD's Myers Gets State Recognition
By Kerry Yancey
Monitor Staff Writer
EUSTACE-Statewide recog
nition doesn't come to that many folks in any profession, particularly so if your job is working behind the scenes.
Eustace Independent School District Administrative Assistant Debbie Myers was one of six "Secretarial Superstars" recognized by the Texas Association of School Boards in its April issue of Texas Lone Star magazine.
The six secretaries profiled in this year's TASB report, aimed at honoring the people who keep school districts running smoothly, have a combined 96 years of service in public schools.
Myers has been with the EISD for 16 years, and has been the superintendent's secretary for 12 years.
"She really helped me in my transition to Eustace," EISD Superintendent Dr. Coy Holcombe said. "She's been in the district long enough that she knows where everything is, and helps make everybody's job easier."
Holcombe said Myers' knowledge of the business side of school district operations means "she can step in and help with any component of the business office, if needed."
"One of her greatest attributes is her efficiency and her professionalism," Administration Office Manager Carol Warren said.
"If someone calls the district, they're always met with a cheerful voice," Warren added. "Everybody has bad days, but one of the things I've always noticed is that if someone comes in, you'd never know she was not having a good day."
That cheerful demeanor has been put to the test, Assistant Superintendent Janice Beasley noted.
"She has maintained a very positive attitude, even in difficult situations," Beasley said.
As the backup to the receptionist, Myers often has answered the telephone and had to weather the brunt of an upset parent's anger before the caller can calm down enough to begin a true discussion, Beasley explained.
In the Texas Lone Star report, Myers noted one of the favorite aspects of her job is working with district employees.
"I'm a people person, and I like interacting with the new employees, as well as the existing ones, putting them at ease, answering all their questions," she said in the report.
"We work closely together on personnel issues, such as teacher contracts and recruiting," Beasley added. "I think it's a very well-deserved honor to be recognized statewide."
In addition to keeping up with all of the records associated with 245 district employees - including service records, contracts, training, vacancy announcements and other items - Myers also helps keep records on the district's students, 1,547 at last count.
Myers also keeps up with the district's budget status, purchase orders, day-to-day operations in the administration office, and also helps organize events, such as the annual employee banquet.
"There's never a dull moment!" she said with a laugh.
"If she's given a task to do, you can rest assured it will be done, and done correctly," Warren said. "And, if there's a deadline, it will be met."
Myers said being singled out for recognition is an honor.
"We (secretaries) are not usually

the first people thought of when one thinks of public education," she said.
Originally from the suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio, Myers moved to Texas about 35 years ago, and started a career in dentistry, gaining an associate's degree in dental assisting.
During her time at a San Antonio dental school, she got into the business end of dentistry, and found she had a knack for keeping track of things.
"The last two years at dental school, I handled 24 research grants," she recalled.
Following a divorce, she moved to the Cedar Creek Lake area when her son Brian Thompson (now a second-year medical student at Texas Tech University) started kindergarten.
"My parents were here, and I thought this would be a good place to raise a child," she recalled.
Her husband of 16 years, Gene, the EISD's technology director, is from Grand Prairie, she added.
"I always see people I know when I'm out and about in the community," Myers said. "I like the small-town feel - the feeling of belonging."
