Matthew 2:1-12 was the text & “Expect Enemies” was the topic of Rev David Diller’s communion meditation. The Good News of God’s love for us at Christmas has a dark side. The wise will always come seeking Jesus, but wisdom reminds us to always remember not everyone will hear the Good News we hear. Some will oppose us.
There’s a built-in conflict between what God wants & what those in power want. While every human heart longs for the Good News of God’s love, the structures of our world are usually designed to resist the new way of life Jesus offers. Jesus says we are to love our enemies, but to be wise as serpents & innocent as doves in dealing with them.
Payne Springs UMC hosts a Walk to Emmaus reunion group every Tue at 5 pm. Meetings are open & everyone is invited to bring a snack supper & join us.
