PIM Partners in Mission

October 11, 2005 EAST TEXAS NEEDS YOU!

You know the saying, 'Can't see the forest through the trees!'  Well, we need to start seeing the houses through the trees.  Teams are needed to clear trees from roads and driveways, stack logs and prepare the area so residents can get in and out of their neighborhoods.  This will allow the electricity to be restored and Insurance adjustors to begin their jobs.  Please call the Disaster Response Center if you would like to Volunteer!  The numbers are 713-533-3713 or 877-774-2700.

October 7, 2005 We have been working very hard to get the Relief Efforts on the way.  Joe and Katie Beran are now in Silsbee with their RV and ready to accept the Early Responder teams.  These teams need to be fully contained and will be removing trees from streets, driveways and yards so that residents can begin to move to the next stage of recovery.   Volunteers will not be able to tear out any damaged structures until Insurance adjustor has visited or pictures have been taken.  We are concentrating on chain saws, hand saws and crews to move the trash.   Please call Katie at 409-225-3136 to schedule a team for a day or longer.

Lee Thornton is overseeing the Disaster Call Center which is now ready to receive calls from volunteers across the U.S. The local number is 713-533-3713 or toll free 877-774-2700.  Volunteers are needed beginning on Monday, October 10th, to answer phones and help with the organization of short and long term recovery.  The Call Center will be open from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Canned and other non-perishable foods, water, health kits and flood buckets are still needed.  Please continue to collect these items and send them to Christian Alliance in Pearland, Tx. 281-412-2285.  We have been shipping 2 trucks a day, since access to East Texas was allowed, to various Methodist churches housing or feeding evacuees.  This need will continue for several more weeks.  Electricity is slowly returning so families have no way to cook or keep food.

Case workers are needed!  UMCOR trainers will come to Houston.
Refresher training for those who were Case workers for Allison Storm will be held at Fair Haven UMC on Gessner, Friday October 21 from 9a.m - noon.
New training for Case workers will be at Fair Haven UMC on Saturday, October 22 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
