Dear Ken Cole,
Greetings, grace and peace to you from the Texas Conference Board of UMM. As you may already know, we are sponsoring a dinner at annual conference this year for the first time. The dinner is from 5:30 – 7:00PM on May 28th in Wesley Hall at the Woodlands UMC, and has been dubbed “Festival of Faith”. We can serve a maximum of 320 guests, and we would be truly blessed if we sold out. If you will be attending annual conference this year, don’t miss this dinner. There will be a guest speaker and musical guests as well. Make your reservations early, as seating is first come, first serve. Tickets are available online at www.tcumm.org by clicking on “Festival of Faith Dinner Tickets” on the home page.
Please pass this information on to anyone you know that will be attending annual conference this year. Or, here’s an idea, talk to your local men’s unit about buying your pastor and your pastor’s spouse a ticket to the dinner. This might be a great way to get your pastor more involved with men’s ministry. Tickets are $25 per person. You may also contact Ken Tielke at 281-346-9677 or Robert Read at 903-626-5343.

United Methodist Men July 19, 2006
6:30 PM Richard Norris gave our opening prayer and we had a great meal.
Meeting opened by 7:02 by Mickey Wilson with a Marble check. All present had their marble.
--There were no minutes read, as Burton was out and our last meeting consisted of an excellent, interesting, and informative presentation by our local County Commissioner Wade McKinney.
--Treasurer’s report by Bill Brown. Our present bank Balance is $623.66. Collections tonight were $80.00.
Old Business:
--Ladies night consisting of Hamburgers and Ice Cream was tabled until the August Meeting for planning a date.
--Caps and Apron purchases were tabled until a later date when we have more money in the treasury.
--UMM giving a devotional during Fellowship: Tabled until later date.
--UMM as Greeters. This is ongoing and hopefully volunteers will emerge from our ranks each Sunday to help in this very worthwhile ministry.
--Mowing the Lord’s Acre. Mickey will call a work day when it cools off a little and several of us can help in this project. Need to mow about once a month.
--Accomplishments by UMM. It was suggested that every 6 months the Accomplishments of the UMM be submitted to the Church Secretary for publication in the Newsletter.
--Bio of each UMM: This was suggested at an earlier meeting and only a couple of the UMM have submitted their Bio, to be made a permanent part of the Library. (see Slim Dunaway for guidelines). Send yours by E Mail to Mickey Wilson or John Dawson.
New Business:
--Serving at the Ark. Several dates have been posted as the dates the PSUMM are to serve at the Ark this fall. September 20, October 11, November 1, and December 6 are on the calendar. Bob Kerr will nail down the specific dates and advise next meeting.
--Ron Close reported on Judy Young roof that is leaking. Says there are a couple options, including a rubber overlay, but overall cost will be around $1000.00. We may need a love offering to get this job done.
--Group Picture of UMM. This will be done by John Dawson at a time to be chosen to get the best crowd together. If everyone would come to the next meeting, it would be an excellent time.
--John Dawson moved we adjourn and Don Mecklin seconded, motion carried. SEE YOU NEXT MEETING!

Payne Springs United Methodist Men Newsletter Article July2006
Doug Ragsdale provided the blessing for our meal on June 21 ,2006 which started at 6:30PM
Mickey Wilson, UMM President, opened the meeting at approximately 7PM with a marble check. No fines were levied.
The regular meeting agenda was suspended to allow a presentation by a surprise guest.
Mickey Wilson introduced Wade McKinney, County Commissioner, Henderson County Precinct 2. Mr. McKinney made a presentation on the activities of Henderson County in our area, precinct 2.
Mr. McKinney indicated that there had been a great deal of change as well as pain with the reassignment of responsibilities from Federal and State to local government.
Some of the issues underway included:
New jail doubling the capacity is to be built. An 8.5 million bond has been approved and the county has 3 million dollars in hand to be applied to the project.
Regulations to govern growth in area developments. The cedar Creek area is looked at by new areas as a place to look at and “NOT” repeat. The regulations are before the court for review.
The state has mandated that the county set up a collection department to collect some the 40 billion owed for past due fines levied over the past 30 years.
The State Comptroller’s office does statistical sampling of housing values in a particular area and mandates that the county be within 5 % of the sample results or explain why not.
A brief overview of the road maintenance process for Precinct Two was provided
Payne Springs roads are maintained by Precinct 2 under contract.
It is hoped that additional enforcement personnel for the Nuisance Law can be hired for the county. This program has reduced the number of meth labs in the county.
Mr. McKinney took a number of questions from the attendees.
The meeting was closed after Mr. McKinney’s discussion.
Mickey Wilson, President PSUMC

Be there at 10:30 if you want to help serve.
A crew of 4 (Mickey Wilson, Bob Kerr, Don Mecklin, and Ken Cole ) installed a window A/C, a new doorknob, a new thermostat on the heater, changed all filters, and cleaned the debris from her roof and carport at Ms. Rhoda’s in Timber Bay (The A/C was graciously donated by Derrel and Edna Nichols)

OLD BUSINESS:
-----John Dawson mentioned the “Tile Bath” for Jean Small. After some discussion on possible ways to proceed, it was decided that Bill Brown would go to Jean’s and evaluate the situation and report back.
-----John Dawson said the first batch of Marbles received by Samsonite were not up to their standards and they will be getting in another shipment soon---stay tuned.
-----Discussion regarding a Saturday meeting with breakfast and a devotional was tabled until we get a bunch of our guys back so we can plan a session.

-----Ken Cole is to check with Pat Papp at the Ark to get our fall schedule for serving at the Ark. This has always been a very worthwhile project and is a ton of fun. Will report back next meeting, or before if necessary.
-----John Dawson, ever the consummate journalist, suggested we submit newsworthy articles about the UMM to the local papers. Our first will be an article about Roy Hale being presented the Certificate of Merit by our UMM. It is in the works.
-----Having run out of “worthwhile” projects to discuss, Charlie Bjerke moved we adjourn, seconded by Derrel Nichols, and before I could write it all down everyone split.

-----Bob Kerr reported that a Wedding will be performed at the Lord’s Acre Tabernacle this weekend, and an “immediate action” plan to get it mowed and cleaned up was necessary. Need to discuss with the Trustee’s and see if a committee is necessary to assure the area is made ready prior to any future functions.
-----Bob Kerr reported that the Workers at the Habitat for Humanities home project are being served breakfast and lunch. If anyone would like to “donate” either meal, please see Bob or Velma Kerr to get your name on the list for the respective meal.
-----Mickey Wilson passed out a worksheet with suggestions for discussion for activities for the UMM. This is an excellent start and needs a lot of prayer and input from all the UMM to keep our overall activities pointed in a direction to be fun, productive and meaningful. Great job Mickey, lets all work to keep this spirit moving. (Get your copy of the list from Mickey if you have not done so.)
-----Ed Elizardo suggested we have an occasional Saturday Morning Meeting and have Breakfast and a devotional. Sounds great and we need to set up a date and do it.
